A good hand hygiene prevents infections
Here is a quick and easy way to avoid the pain of colds and flu this winter
"We try to encourage people to rub their hands frequently with a gel-based alcohol for fifteen seconds," said Dr. Geoff Fernie, vice president of research at the Rehabilitation Institute of Toronto, more Canadian provider of rehabilitation services for adults. A washing with warm soapy water is a good way to clean his hands, but the gel allows alcohol to kill more microbes. " A good hand hygiene can help prevent colds, flu, food poisoning and gastrointestinal disorders. Microbes accumulate during daily activities, and you can easily infect touching your eyes, our nose or mouth after having put his hand on a doorknob or shaking hands with someone. Most people can quickly overcome an illness, but for the elderly and those whose immune system is compromised, certain infections can have disastrous consequences. Disinfect his hands is a measure so important in preventing infections that Dr. Fernie seeks by all means to ensure that the staff of the hospital and other health care providers properly disinfect their hands several times during of the day. Dr Fernie advises people to always have several bottles of disinfectant gel handy and use them frequently. "I keep a bottle of disinfectant for hands in my car, one in the pocket of my coat, one on my desk, and another on the kitchen table at home," adds Dr. Fernie. Most disinfectants available now contain ingredients that prevent dry skin, which irritates the skin less a wash in hot soapy water.
Dr Fernie recommends that the following advice to take maximum advantage of your disinfectant:
• Pour approximately equivalent to a half teaspoon of product in the palm of your hands.
• Rub your hands together, making sure to cover all surfaces of your hands until they are dry.
Be sure to choose a disinfectant for the hands-based alcohol. Dr Fernie recommends using a disinfectant containing at least 60% alcohol to kill germs and prevent the spread of infections effectively.
